Look, I know what you are going to say. "It is too early for Christmas movies" but Hallmark starts their countdown to Christmas on October 20th so I think it is the perfect time.
Everyone talks about the Hallmark formula and how all their movies have the same story about a big city girl or guy who visits a small town and falls in love, giving up big city life to become the owner of a tree farm. That is not entirely wrong but the older Hallmark movies were more unique in their stories.
10) Christmas in Evergreen: Letters to Santa (2018)
This is the second movie in the Christmas to Evergreen series and brings back the "way Christmas used to be" by pulling out all of Evergreens tradition. For being more recent, the Evergreen movies don't feel like the typical formula. Even with multiple love stories, the joy of small-town Christmas feels like more of a focus. Personally, the entire series is a go-to for a cozy night in with hot chocolate and pjs.
9) Christmas in Evergreen (2017)
You can't beat the first movie in the series and how it sets up the magical town of Evergreen. The main character is getting ready to move away from Evergreen to be with her long distance boyfriend but a couple different wishes on the town's magic snow-globe leads her to finding love closer to home.
8) Debbi Macomber's Mrs. Miracle
Released in 2009, Mrs. Miracle is a story of husband learning to find his passion and love again after losing his wife. Seth is struggling to grieve while raising his two kids and hires a housekeeper nicknamed "Mrs. Miracle" by his children. She brings fun and healing to the family in a way that truly captures the Hallmark Christmas magic.
7) Lucky Christmas (2011)
The main character Holly buys a lottery ticket, kisses it for good luck, throws it in her glove box and then has her car stolen. The two guys who accidentally stole her car, find the winning ticket and the greedier of the two convinces the other to win her heart and convince her to split the earnings. In the end, Holly finds both luck and love. The conflict in this movie is different from the more recent formulaic conflicts Hallmark writes. It is personally one of my go-to feel good movies.
6) A Christmas Wish (2011)
After her husband leaves her with a drained bank account, Martha is left homeless with her two daughters and stepson. She moves to a small town and as she struggles with bills, the residents help her get back on her feet. Hallmark really shows the true spirit of Christmas with this one. This movie and the following movies are done in a way that I sometimes forget they are even Hallmark movies.
5) A Dog Named Christmas (2009)
Todd, young man with a learning disability, convinces his parents to let him participate in their town's "adopt a dog for Christmas" event and brings home the yellow lab he names Christmas. The dog brings out the best in the family and brings a joy to Todd that his parents hadn't seen and Todd works to get as many animals adopted as possible during the event. Who doesn't want to watch a movie about a dog bringing a family together for the holidays? Also, if you are a fan of Shameless, Todd is played by Noel Fisher (Mickey).
4) November Christmas (2010)
A community comes together to bring an early Christmas to a family with a seriously ill young daughter. Together, the members of the community heal from their own losses and mend relationships while coming together to bring Christmas to the little girl. Don't worry, the movie has a happy ending.
3) Christmas with Holly (2012)
When Holly becomes an orphan, her three uncles step in to help raise her. Holly has not spoken a single word since losing her mother and her uncles do everything they can to get her to talk. When her uncle Mark meets Maggie, everyone begins to heal and Mark faces the dilemma of whether to pursue love or focus only on his niece. The movie takes place in a small town in Washington state so that helped it become an easy top 3.
2) The National Tree (2009)
Father and son duo Corey and Rock win the contest for the next National Tree and find themselves on a cross-country road trip to deliver their winner to the capital. Corey planted the tree when Rock was born and the sentimental value was part of why they won but along the way it loses its meaning to the outside world as the personal meaning grows for Corey and Rock. The trip helps the father and son fix their relationship while finding new connections along the way. I'll be honest, I think in 2009 I had a crush on the son which influenced me watching it multiple times but the story is actually great.
1) Silver Bells (2005)
Danny doesn't want to be the future owner of his father's tree farm in New York City. When the two have a disagreement, Danny runs away to pursue his photography and finds a mentor who helps him gain success. I don't want to give too much away but while his dad does happen to find love during his search for Danny. The movie is beautifully done and in my personal opinion one of Hallmark's best Christmas movies.

I really love this post and look forward to watching some of these movies this upcoming holiday. I love your suggestions and reading this list made me really exciting for the holidays coming up. I love the 'ber months!
Hi Jenna,
This was an awesome post! I'm a sucker for a good Christmas movie, and I will definitely be adding these to my December rotation. Thankfully, Peacock and Hallmark seem to have a deal, so once the season hits hopefully I'll see most of these on there. Reading this definitely made me excited for the holiday season, and I might just watch the Polar Express tonight with some hot chocolate haha. Great work!
Hi Jenna,
It’s never too soon to make a post about Christmas. My wife and I listen to Christmas music year-round. I believe some of them I have heard before. I say listened to because I like to have something playing in the background while working. Christmas is my number one holiday. Thanks for sharing your Hallmark top ten.

Hi Jenna,
I absolutely agree that it is not too soon to make a post about Christmas movies. In full honesty, my roommates and I were playing Christmas music back in September! While that was definitely a record for us, the cozy fall vibes got us excited for the upcoming holiday season. While I honestly haven't watched many Hallmark movies, I absolutely love the idea of throwing one of these on while cooking or cleaning. Thanks for putting this list together - I hope to get watching after finals!
